Dispelling the CrossFit Rumors
All too often I hear how scared people are to give CrossFit a try. Whether it’s because of the program’s reputation for being too intense, or the common statement everyone says “I am going to get hurt.” Many interested people are being unfairly convinced into thinking that there is something to fear.
So for all of you out there who fit into this category but are perhaps still intrigued by what some of your friends are calling “the best fitness experience of their life,” let me share with you a couple of reasons why CrossFit is nothing to be afraid of, and give you a few tips on what to look for when deciding on a CrossFit gym. Seek out a CrossFit gym that implements high standards for their coaches, workouts that focus on proper functional movements and ensure measurable results for their athletes. Look for a facility that creates a welcoming supportive environment that treats all their members “aka – athletes” as equals. In a CrossFit gym, you always want to feel challenged yet comfortable, excited about the workouts and always wanting to come back for more.
Few tips when deciding on a CrossFit Gym:
- Coaching Staff: Experienced in CrossFit training, Olympic Lifting, Mobiliy, and Nutrition.
- Coach to Class Ratio: Small class sizes ensure that all athletes receive proper instruction. Good rule of thumb is 1 coach for every 10-12 athletes
- Fundamentals: Seek out a Crossfit gym that offers a beginners fundamentals program (also commonly known as “Fundamentals” or “On-Ramp”)
