Commonly Deficient Minerals

Commonly Deficient Minerals

Supplement Review: ZMA brand; Biotest

Zinc and magnesium are two of the most commonly deficient minerals in the American diet, yet they are also two of the most important. When you sleep, testosterone production and growth hormone activity are very high. ZMA is meant to be taken before you sleep, in order to optimize the anabolic hormone activity, plus magnesium and zinc help you get into a deep sleep. Sleep is one of the most overlooked aspects of health, wellness, and strength training. There are a lot of tips out there on how to avoid “overtraining.” However, I have a strong belief that you simply, “under recover,” rather than over train (to a certain extent). Sleep is essential.

Biotest’s ZMA knocks me out at night. I take it maybe 30 minutes before bed, and it takes maybe 10 minutes before I’m in a deep sleep. The only thing that wakes me up is my alarm clock. This is so important for optimal recovery and gaining strength. On top of a well planned strength training program, this supplement works very well. Some of the things I noticed are strength gains and I also sleep like a rock, therefore I am more alert during the day. It is tough to find mineral support from high quality sources. It is a shame how many low quality (yet highly popular) supplements are out there. Biotest uses potent, and optimal forms of both zinc and magnesium in this ZMA. ZMA was very popular maybe 5 to 10 years ago, but it is just now becoming popular again. I’m not sure why it fell off the earth because zinc and magnesium deficiencies are real and very common.
